Sometimes members can freak out when dealing with big unanswered questions - like having questions means you are apostate. Your tackling of these issues even when there aren't "answers" in the traditional sense is faithful, brave, and needed.jendoophttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01010044127553834584noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4187023313115210530.post-91606223822469316162010-07-24T22:55:01.452-07:002010-07-24T22:55:01.452-07:00Well-written and true. It's just about keeping hard things in context and not letting the branches overrun the roots.

There is soooo much to be learned by pondering the basic, core doctrines -- and personally, I think if answers about the 'hard things' are going to come, they come best through such core pondering, not in hacking at the branches (alluding to a twist on a favorite Thoreau quote).Michellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08215431222961203620noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4187023313115210530.post-45158671651385081932010-07-11T21:41:22.628-07:002010-07-11T21:41:22.628-07:00I think how we allow ourselves to react about poly...I think how we allow ourselves to react about polygamy, the priesthood to men of color before 1978 and any other squidgy topic in the history of the church can and should be looked at as a canary in the mine of our testimonies. If we are willing to allow these distractions, then our foundations may very well be cracking; our relationship with our Savior and His saving doctrines are not receiving enough proverbial oxygen in our lives.

In the past few weeks I have been slammed with the announcement of some people I care about who claim utter failings in their testimonies--they now know it's all not true. And my heart breaks and my mind reels at how they got to this place of spiritual asphyxiation. But as Rome wasn't built in a day, a testimony is not shattered in a day, but in dribs and drabs and failings and falterings: strayings from the rock of our Lord and His gospel.

"O be wise, what can I say more?"Angiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04373394125196084799noreply@blogger.com
